Mass and 2022 SAG Awards – More Movies Weekly – Episode 35

In this episode of the More Movies Weekly podcast, Greg and Davediscuss Mass (2021), the new American drama film directed by Fran Kranz and starring Reed Birney, Ann Dowd, Jason Isaacs, and Martha Plimpton. The film covers two couples who meet for a painful and raw conversation in the aftermath of a violent tragedy.

Mass is a bottle movie, a single location drama that consists of two couples seated across a table from each other in a placidly sterile church antechamber. Here, in a form of therapy a few years after the incident, the couples discuss the unthinkable and unimaginable. Two of them are the parents of a teenage boy who was killed in a school shooting and the other two are the parents of the said shooter. A deep and intriguing afternoon play, the film is is an inquiry into questions of guilt and innocence and the surprising ways they can overlap.
