Everything Everywhere All at Once – More Movies Weekly – Episode 51

In this episode of the More Movies Weekly podcast, Greg and Dave discuss Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), an absurdist action comedy drama written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as ‘The Daniels‘), which stars Michele Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Kwan, James Hong and Stephanie Hsu.

The film has been described as a “swirl of genre anarchy” and features elements of black comedy, science fiction, fantasy, martial arts film and animation. Kwan and Scheinert researched the concept of the multiverse as far back as 2010, and began penning the screenplay as early as 2016, although it has been compared to many contemporary filmns based on the multiverse concept such as Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Spider-Man No Way Home (2021) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).

Everything Everywhere All at Once has received widespread critical acclaim; reviews praised its imagination, direction, Yeoh’s performance, and handling of themes such as existentialism, nihilism, and Asian-American identity. It has grossed over $90 million worldwide, surpassing Hereditary (2018) as A24’s highest-grossing film of all time.
